Digital Learning Product Suite, Example #2

Genomic Medicine in Clinical Practice @ Harvard Medical School

I led the multi‑year evolution of Genomic Medicine in Clinical Practice, taking it from a stalled, faculty‑disengaged project to a high‑performing, modular on‑demand program. The course launched with the highest satisfaction score of 2022, saw retention gains in 2023, and was fully redesigned in 2024 into a five‑module learning path with flexible enrollment options.

What I Built

The program gives clinicians and researchers a clear foundation in genomic medicine and practical ways to integrate genetic testing into clinical work. My focus was rebuilding momentum with faculty directors, clarifying learner needs, and creating a structure that could scale across years and modalities.

  • A complete redesign grounded in updated learner needs
  • A modular architecture that supports both standalone and pathway enrollment
  • Coordinated development with 25 faculty in a three‑month sprint
  • Script, storyboard, recording, and post‑production leadership
  • On‑demand delivery with improved retention and satisfaction

My Role

  • Led product strategy, redesign, and multi‑year evolution
  • Repaired faculty relationships and aligned expectations
  • Ran accelerated development with 25 faculty contributors
  • Managed scripts, storyboards, remote recordings, and post‑production
  • Oversaw budgets, timelines, LMS operations, and Salesforce integrations
  • Recruited and coached faculty across the program

The Modules

Each module follows the same instructional pattern: short videos paired with aligned check‑for‑understanding quizzes. Every video includes focus questions, custom motion graphics, in‑video instructor‑led practice, downloadable and closed‑captioned transcripts, and links to external resources. Quizzes directly follow and assess the content of the preceding video. Each module culminates in a larger exercise or assessment, with some modules weaving major assessments throughout.

Foundational Components

On-Demand Course
Harvard Medical School

A module that presents a big‑picture view of recent advances in genomic medicine and introduces skills in family history collection and pedigree interpretation.

  • Culminating assessment: a clinical simulation where learners gather a patient’s family history and construct and interpret a pedigree

Genomic Variation and Laboratory Analysis

On-Demand Course
Harvard Medical School

A module that explores genomic variation, related phenotypes, and the testing technologies used to detect these variations, along with key considerations in evaluating laboratory analyses.

  • Culminating assessment: a clinical simulation selecting an appropriate testing technology and interpreting the resulting lab report

Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues

On-Demand Course
Harvard Medical School

A module that navigates the laws, policies, ethical principles, and social issues shaping the delivery of genomic medicine today.

  • Major assessment on ethics of genetic testing in children and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA)
  • Virtual asynchronous reading group with rotating articles selected by course directors

Impact

  • Highest satisfaction score of all online offerings in 2022
  • Retention gains in 2023 following targeted updates
  • Improved retention and satisfaction again in 2024 with the new on‑demand, modular format
  • Faster development cycles through streamlined faculty workflows
  • Clearer, more accessible learning experience across all modules

How It Scales

  • Modular structure supports future updates and new clinical topics
  • Faculty workflows reused across other programs
  • On‑demand architecture reduces operational load and increases reach
  • Design patterns inform other clinical education products
